Web 2.0

In our last lesson, we continued on the Internet front, trying to understand the term Web 2.0. To do this we felt it would help us from answer these few questions... Web 2.0 Questions


1. Who is David Gauntlett?

  • I feel that a select few counties have access to this ‘global village’, however as less than 5% of the population have access to the internet this does act as a barrier.

  • The companies that make the money are the big companies as this is who most of the social networking sites are owned by. 


11. How are most of us using web 2.0 sites, and how is this the same as Web 2.0?


  • “Read, watch, play and listen – but not to create and upload

  • ‘News commodity’ 


 13. How has the internet changed fan culture?


  • Internet can accelerate fan interpretations and re-imaging’s of media products.

We watched a video on youtube to help us understand the term, 'Web 2.0': To get some more information on 'Web 2.0' I decided to do some research, I used this website to make it easier for me to understand the real definition of Web 2.0:

Web 2.0 is the term given to describe a second generation of the World Wide Web that is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online. Web 2.0 basically refers to the transition from static HTML Web pages to a more dynamic Web that is more organized and is based on serving Web applications to users. Other improved functionality of Web 2.0 includes open communication with an emphasis on Web-based communities of users, and more open sharing of information. Over time Web 2.0 has been used more as a marketing term than a computer-science-based term. Blogs, wikis, and Web services are all seen as components of Web 2.0."

History Of the Internet

Recently in our Media lessons we have been doing some research on the: History of the Internet. We watched a film by Melih Bilgil. Here are some of the Key factors we learned from this video. October the 4th 1957 during the cold war was when we first had access to the internet, this was mainly used for military reasons. These are all the reason what the internet is being used for: Military network Commercial Scientific To reduce congestion of Internet file transferring, they break down the files in to smaller files and then when they are at the other end they are put back together again. Atomic – Radio waves, Direct waves, Network – long distance. During the end of the lesson, we were all asked a question, and we found that most peoples answer's to this question was the same. 1. What form of technology reminds you most of growing up and why? I remember when I was younger the first mobile phone, where it would have to be on charge for most of the day, and then when you went out it would only last for around 1 hour, it then developed from phones that were really cool about 10 years ago, to if you had one of them now, it would be embarrassing. Facebook revolution

There has been several videos that have been uploaded on to facebook recently, refering to the revolution of Facebook. This was was very interesting as it informed me about several facts and statistics which i will be able to use in my documentary. This is very similar to my documentary, and it has helped me pick up some key techniques that I will be able to use.
